BARACK OBAMA

Barack Obama's speech was a legendary and historic one. It can easily be categorized with Abraham Lincolns "Four Score & Seven Years Ago" speech, and Martin Luther Kings' "I Have A Dream" speech. It was an issue that most defiantly needed to be discussed. I agree that we can only be a perfect union if we fix this problem.
This speech influences others because it deals with the race problem. It tells how far we've come, and how blacks now have a better chance in life, and how they grow up with more hope than they ever would have in in the 50s or 60s. But it also tells about how far we have to come. This problem hasn't been fixed, not even after "Brown vs. Board" he said. He also said "Segregated Schools are Inferior Schools." And my favorite quote by him was, "The past isn't dead & buried, it isn't even the past." This quote really touched me, because it made me think about all the things that have happened, and all the things that are going to happen, and how we need to draw on past experiences to get strength and knowledge to tackle the future.
His family factors into his view on race because his father was a black man from Kenya, and his mother was a white woman from Kansas. He also has people of every race and religion in his family. And he says, " In no other country in the world in my family even possible." His white grandmother used to make such racist comments it would " make him cringe " and yet she loved him dearly. She used to say how she was afraid of black men on the street. His Reverend made comments against America, but he is still a patriot. And he quotes, " The most segregated hour in modern life is Sunday morning." He is probably such an extreme anti- racist, because he experienced racism from his family, peers, and others. He can sympathize and knows how it feels, yet he does not condemn the racists.
Barack Obama made a wonderful and legendary speech. I am very lucky to have heard his speech, and to not experience racism in my life. His speech opened my eyes, and made me think about the way I treat others; and about what I'm going to say next, before I say it.
